Far from the Madding Crowd
by Mark Healy – adapted from the Novel by Thomas Hardy
Directed by Neil Davis & Norah Lovely
Thomas Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd published in 1974, took its name from lines in Thomas Gray’s poem “Elegy Written in a Country Church”. The Victorian realist’s pastoral novels often served as an elegy for a declining rural society. Today, Hardy’s works sit comfortably in the classic novel adaptation canon, with many of his major works being translated into mini-series and films.
